This blog chronicles the experience of our daughter’s forced psychiatric care in Alberta, Canada. In creating it, we are using actual documents that passed between us and her professional caregivers as well as added commentary.
As a means of protecting the innocent, we are using a psyeudonym for our daughter’s name. Doctors will be referred to by the title ”Doctor” and their last name. Nursing staff will be referenced by first name only, which was the extent of our knowledge about their personal lives.
We are sharing this information with the larger world both to inform and also, hopefully, help provide some guidance to others whose children or themselves may have ended up in a situation of forced psychiatric care. We did manage to get our daughter out of the hospital, but first, we had to go through a psychiatric nightmare.
